Along the way\, E rin finds out about other more serious hate crimes\, realizes VW of Amer ica wants to sponsor her trip\, meets strangers who display random acts of kindness\, has people attempt to remove the graffiti from her car\, e xperiments with having a male drive her car to see what the difference w ould be\, gains worldwide support while loses the support of those she's closest to back home. The film follows Erin's quest to drive her vandal ized car over the course of one year while documenting the changes this journey has brought to her life. On the one year anniversary of driving her car with the graffiti\, Erin decides to transform her car into a hug e rainbow with fagbug written on both sides of it.
